Ken Dreifach

Deputy General Counsel, Linden Lab

Ken Dreifach is Deputy General Counsel of Linden Lab, operators of the Second Life (secondlife.com) virtual world platform.

In that position, he heads the company's regulatory, compliance, privacy, safety and litigation efforts, ensuring that the Second Life platform is operated in a secure and responsible manner. He also serves as the company's primary contact with law enforcement and advocacy organizations, working closely with prosecutors when criminal activity is suspected.

From 2000 to 2006, Dreifach served as Chief of the Internet Bureau of the New York Attorney General's office. Under his leadership, that Bureau brought numerous ground-breaking enforcement actions protecting Internet users from a wide range of fraud and other illegal practices. These included high-profile matters against spyware distributors, spammers, crammers, online gambling operators, and others engaged in practices that were deceptive, unfair or might endanger children and minors. He also spent several years in private practice at two large, international law firms (first as associate, then as partner), advising financial and technology clients regarding compliance and product development.

Mr. Dreifach is a graduate of New York University School of Law, and Wesleyan University. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University (Class of 1987) and the New York University School of Law (Class of 1991), and began his legal career as a judicial clerk for Judge Phyllis Kravitch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He is a frequent speaker on Internet law issues, and has authored several articles on Internet law.
