An MEP since 2004, Pilar Del Castillo Vera is currently and the coordinator for the EPP Group in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. She is also the chairwoman of the Board of Governors of the European Internet Foundation. Del Castillo Vera served as Spanish Minister for Education, Culture and Sport from 2000 to 2004, as the Executive President of Centro de Investigaciones Socologicas (Sociology Research Center) from 1996-2000, and as the Editor of Nueva Revista de Politica, Cultura y Arte from 1995 to 1996. Del Castillo Vera is the author of various books and articles on political parties and political and election behavior and a member of various national and international political science and sociology associations. She is a former professor of political science and associate professor of constitutional law. She holds a law degree and a PhD in law from Complutense University of Madrid, a Masters degree in political science from Ohio State University, and received a Fulbright scholarship at Ohio State University.
