Richard Bennett

Network Achitecture Consultant

Richard Bennett is a network architecture consultant based in Silicon Valley. A long-time standards engineer, he was vice-chair of the IEEE 802.3 task group that produced the first standard for Ethernet over twisted pair, a key contributor to the Wi-Fi and Ultra-Wideband standards, and co-founder of the first vendor forum for the networking industry, the Open Token Foundation. A frequent contributor to The Register, Mr. Bennett has published opinion pieces in the San Jose Mercury News and the San Francisco Chronicle and blog posts at CircleID.com.

He has been an expert witness before the US FCC and the California legislature, is a frequent conference speaker, and has worked with Internet protocols and standards for more than 25 years. His personal blog is BroadbandPolitics.com, and beginning in May he will be the featured blogger on Telecom for the IEEE Spectrum. His current area of interest is the interaction of government regulations with network standards for emerging wireless technologies.
