Jeff B. Richards -- Biography

Jeff B. Richards was appointed Executive Director of the INTERNET ALLIANCE in late 1996. As its head, Mr. Richards oversees all aspects of the 200+ company organization, the leading consumer-focused Internet online trade association.

Richards has been a contributor to nearly all aspects of the Internet online evolution. He launched his first service, INFO*PAC, for Pacific Bell's officers and executives on 1/1/84, the day of the Bell System divestiture. Since 1986, he has spoken widely about consumer interactivity to senior government and executive audiences in venues as diverse as Indonesia, France, Italy, Great Britain, and the Netherlands.

Over the past decade, Mr. Richards' career has spanned roles at Pacific Bell, Bellcore, Pacific Telesis Group, Fleishman-Hillard and Bozell. As Director of National Affairs, he was central to the regional Bell company team that accomplished passage of the landmark 1996 Telecommunications Act. Immediately prior to his Internet Alliance role, he served as senior vice president at the Strategic Alliance Group/Bozell Worldwide. He is an advisor to the C. Everett Koop Foundation and its spinoffs, and is a Board Director of the International Institute for Interactivity, Inc., a Washington DC foundation, and the A C Kuno Foundation in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Mr. Richards joined the Alliance as a corporate member in 1984, was elected to the Alliance's Board in 1986, and served as its Chairman in 1992. A former epidemiologist, he remains an active member of the American Public Health Association. Richards is 46 and a native of Eugene, Oregon.
