The Internet Caucus Advisory Committee hosted its second Broadband discussion on June 7, 2001 in the US Capitol Building. The event featured comments from Members and from the private sector and was moderated by Susan Lynner, Prudential Securities. The Members of Congress and panelists probed regulatory approaches to spurring the rapid deployment of broadband services to the home including:
- removing restrictions on long distance data delivery,
- deregulating the provision of DSL services,
- broadening the scope antitrust enforcement,
- creating market power tests,
- limiting broadband taxes,
- providing loans to spur rural broadband deployment, and
- mandating the deployment of broadband services within the next five years.
Those approaches are reflected in the Tauzin-Dingell and Cannon-Conyers legislative packages - which were discussed in great detail.
Members of Congress participating were (in order of appearance):
- Congressman Goodlatte
- Congressman Boucher
- Congressman Largent
