Leaders of the Congressional Internet Caucus Wireless Task Force today kicked off the wireless panel series with a group of policy and industry leaders debating, "Wireless: Is the US Falling Behind?" The Wireless series will continue with an additional event on wireless spectrum. These events will raise Congressional awareness about issues confronting the U.S. wireless Internet marketplace.
Today's Wireless Internet discussion opened with comments from Congressman Honda (D-CA). Honda commented, "By fostering discussions between policymakers and industry leaders, the Wireless Task Force seeks to shed light upon the challenges confronting the evolution of America's wireless industry."
The expert panel, moderated by Gerry Waldron of Covington & Burling, included Rudy Baca of Precursor Group, Chris Hare of DigitWireless, David Jeppsen of NTT DoCoMo USA and Daniel Meredith of Vodafone. The panel discussed whether the U.S. is lagging behind in the roll out of advanced wireless services and its effect on domestic consumer demand. The event also included demonstrations of current wireless devices and advanced wireless services in use throughout the world.
