Because the face of emergency communications is ever-changing, it is imperative that lawmakers stay well informed in order to best serve their constituents. Both cell phones and Voice over IP (VoIP) emergency communications have made headlines recently due to stories that have ended happily and some that have ended tragically. This, coupled with pending legislation that will reshape the industry, as well as the work of organizations focused on creating a Next Generation system to help preserve the safety of American, more than underscores the need for legislators to take the lead and help shape the issue for the better.
