Demonstration will show how new technologies are essential to the creativity and innovation that have allowed this nation to thrive. The Digital Freedom Campaign is dedicated to defending the rights of artists, innovators, creators and consumers to use lawful technology free of unreasonable government restrictions and without fear of costly lawsuits.
Earthlink
Attack Shield is cutting edge behavioral/heuristic malware removal technology that doesn't rely on scanning or updates. Instead Attack Shield constantly monitors PC behavior, intelligently analyzing a combination of known bad behaviors to determine if a program is malicious. This enables Attack Shield to differentiate between programs that are malicious and programs that have been hijacked to perform malicious actions so that required processes are not removed. Entertainment Software Association (ESA)
The Entertainment Software Association will demonstrate the Next Generation Gaming Consoles. ESA will be showcasing the latest video game consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, including the next-gen consoles' capabilities as multimedia centers for the home, complete with internet browsers and parental controls.
Federal Trade Commission
OnGuardOnLine.gov
Federal Trade Commission display will feature the consumer education materials from the OnGuard Online (OGOL) outreach program. Materials are the collaborative effort from the public and private sector. Promote safe computing; also demonstrate Web site games and quizzes via series of FTC operated Web sites.
Fox Interactive News Media, Sentinel Safe, MySpace
Fox Interactive News Media will demonstrate Sentinel Safe, a comprehensive tool developed to identify registered sex offenders within online communities. Using aggregated data, photo recognition technology, and multiple search criteria, Sentinel Safe will create safer online experiences.
By combining comprehensive data, with state of the art technology, Sentinel Safe will show how they compare items like name, height, and DOB, and also photos of registered offenders, against those posted on member profiles. Sentinel Safe will demonstrate how they utilize e-mail as identifying criteria in anticipation of the passage of legislation which would require offenders to register their e-mail addresses.
Fujitsu
Fujitsu will demonstrate biometric authentication in the form of palm vein technology and fingerprint sensors. Instead of remembering passwords or providing other credentials these technologies, along with 123ID's matching algorithm for fingerprint authentication and verification, will provide for a valid identification and authentication.
Fujitsu will also demonstrate its biometrics technology and mobile products security. The palm vein technology capitalizes on the special features of the veins in the palm that consists of a small palm vein scanner that is easy and natural to use, fast and highly accurate. In addition, Fujitsu, along with its software partner 123ID, will demonstrate their robust solid state fingerprint sensors and minutia-based algorithm that will improve the security and convenience of user identification and authentication. These cost effective devices provide quick reliable alternative to passwords, PINs, keys, and other methods of security authentication. In addition, Comptrace software will provide the ability for computer theft recovery, data protection and secure asset tracking for secure mobile computing.
Google
Google will demonstrate its Google Earth software, which is a mapping program combining the power of Google Search with satellite imagery,maps, terrain and 3D buildings to put the world's geographic information at a user's fingertips. By enabling government staff to do their jobs faster, and make better decisions, Google Earth is helping government agencies meet their goals on time and under budget. We will demonstrate its use in natural and man-made disaster planning to better coordinate and manage the use of emergency resources and provide for cross-agency situational awareness. The demo will highlight the importance of effective information sharing between and across government organizations, and the role that geospatial
technology like Google Earth can play in organizing that information to facilitate sharing and decision-making.
HID Global
HID Global will demonstrate their iClass smart card technology which meets the latest PIV II US Smart Card Interoperability Specifications. HID Global will also demonstrate the newest radio frequency-based access control credential that gives holders of the credential absolute control over when it is read by a reader. The credential combines a biometric with smart card technology.
i-SAFE
i-SAFE partnered with Microsoft to create an On Demand system for Internet safety education. i-LEARN gives educators an opportunity to receive this important professional development when opportunity permits! There are five i-LEARN options with five different users in mind. Those registered as educators with i-SAFE have the greatest access to view the modules because you work closely with students and parents. Those registered as parents and fifty+ have access to either of those modules since many users fit both categories. However, students are limited to the i-MENTOR Training Network and the Operation i-SHIELD module is reserved for those in law enforcement.
Kodak
Kodak will demonstrate a new family of digital pictures that debuted at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show. This new generation of frames boast innovation that allow consumers to play vibrant, customizable slideshows of pictures and videos that can be set to music. Available in 10-inch and 8-inch Wi-Fi and 8-inch and 7-inch standard versions, these frames boast true plug and-play ease of use and a full menu of versatile features with an intuitive, multifunction remote control. Optional interchangeable faceplates let you match your décor and style.
Kodak will also demonstrate TRACELESS technology and how it uses invisible markers (odorless, colorless, liquid or solid) customized to a manufacturer of goods (pharmaceutical company, a recognizable designer brand of clothing and goods) to authenticate merchandise. The markers can be detected ONLY by using Kodak's reading technology, offering virtually an unbreakable anti-counterfeiting solution. The kiosks will be connected to a manufacturer database via the internet, so that when consumers scan their goods (prescription drugs, Gucci bag, perfume, etc), they'll know if they have purchased the "real McCoy" from the web.
Lenovo
Lenovo is developing communication and computing appliances that will be available to those who currently cannot afford PCs at the exsisting prices. Lenovo will demonstrate these products and show how they can be used in developing countries, by rural farmers and others. The ThinkPad product line has been leading the PC industry in incorporating technology that enables users to protect their privacy and secure their data. Lenovo will demonstrate how biometric authentication and Trusted Platform Module can be used to increase security in industry applications. Lenovo will also discuss how new virtualization technology will bring new opportunities to increase privacy and security.
Lexis Nexis
Lexis Nexis will demonstrate their Advanced Sex Offender Search that will identify, locate and map addresses associated with registered sex offenders as well as non-compliant and absconded sex offenders in near real-time. During the demonstration, attendees will see how searches on specific addresses or zip codes return a list of names and addresses for registered sex offenders, as well as addresses associated with non-compliant and absconded sex offenders within the vicinity. Attendees will see how these results can then be seamlessly dragged and dropped into a GIS application that automatically plots the addresses on a map and provides tools for measuring their proximity to schools, day care facilities and other areas where young children may congregate.
Microsoft
Microsoft will demonstrate their security, privacy, and parental controls when showcasing Windows Vista Ultimate, which will include Media Center functionality and the Aero UI, as well as Xbox 360.
NBC Universal
NBC Universal will demonstrate:
- (1) The ability of Bravo's Project Runway viewers to post real-time comments onto a screen scroll during Project Runway episodes, the ability of viewers of several TV series to engage in blogs and chats with TV show talent when the TV episode airs, and other interactive TV show features that utilize the Internet.
- (2) Demonstrates web-specific NBC Universal content like, webisodes available through the SciFi Channel's website, comedies available only on the Internet at dotcomedy.com, and TV shows that never made it on TV at brilliantbutcancelled.com.
- (3) Demonstrate the streaming of news (Today Show, Nightly News with Brian Williams, etc.) and entertainment (30 Rock; Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) TV shows through MSNBC.com, the CinemaNow Internet service, which enables consumers to download the latest movies and keep up to three copies, including the ability to burn copies to a DVD. Also WurldMedia's PeerImpact service, which utilized peer-to-peer technology to enable Internet movie rentals, downloading of The Office, My Name is Earl, and other TV shows through iTunes, and the movie download service offered through Amazon's Unbox service.
NTD, LLC -- ReliefInsite.com
This demonstration will illustrate how ReliefInsite empowers pain patients to securely document their conditions improving vital communications with their physicians, track medication effectiveness, and monitor conditions. You will see how pin-point visual assessment tools produce easy to read actionable information. You will see how ReliefInsite enables patients to share treatment experiences and increase knowledge of their condition and treatment advances. ReliefInsite is a breakthrough in patient-centric healthcare because it enables consumers to compile higher quality data and review immediate analysis, unlike current methods that use handwritten diaries, which must be manually reviewed by physicians already stretched for time.
NTT Communications
NTT Communications' will demonstrate an IPv6 based disaster mitigation system that warns the public of imminent earthquake events. The system, which is similar to the U.S.'s Emergency Alert System (EAS), is currently being tested in Japan as a joint effort between NTT Communications and the Japan Meteorological Agency. With this system the general public can be alerted of major earthquake events via fixed, mobile, or wireless IPv6 enabled devices. The system alerts users of the scale as well as how long it will take before a major tremor strikes service subscriber areas. For example, the user may be informed, "an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 will strike in 45 seconds." ICAC Tech Fair attendees will be able to see this emergency alert system in operation making use of the IPv6 network and leveraging multicast technology. This system could be used as a prototype for revitalizing and expanding the use of the EAS in the United States to minimize the impact of natural disasters.
Network2
Network2 will demonstrate the power of the Internet and IP technology to allow users to control and maximize their Internet, communications, media and entertainment experience. Network2 will demonstrate how it functions as a meta-aggregator, guide and curator of Internet TV shows, as well as generating user reviews, tagging, and other social sharing features. Network2 allows users to build their own Network of shows, featuring a collection of Network2 curated content, and take that show to the user's video browser, the user's portable media device, or just watch it on the Net. Network2 allows for the disintermediation of video content from the facilities upon which the content rides.
Panasonic
Panasonic will showcase a full product line of secure, rugged, reliable and wireless laptops that allow you to work anywhere. This full line of superior mobile computing solutions includes embedded vireless technology certified with all three carriers including Cingular, Sprint, and Verizon.
The Panasonic Toughbook full line will be on display for all attendees to touch, try and see the end result of years of innovative engineering. From full rugged products which will be available to watch streaming video, to our business rugged products to surf the net, as well as the traditional tablet to see healthcare applications in action.
PatientINFORM
PatientINFORM, a new organization supported by the American Medical Publishers Committee of the Professional/Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers and the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers, will demonstrate how they provide free full-text access to clinically relevant medical research through the gateway of voluntary health organization and professional medical society Web sites. This demonstration will display the linking and navigation strategies that enable free access, and illustrate how patients and their family members will gain access to original medical research complemented by the context, interpretation, reassurance, and support that make Web-based health information truly empowering. Participants will be able to walk through an online information search strategy that patient facing diseases including diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and rare genetic disorders may employ.
RSA, The Security Division of EMC Corporation
Come see a live demonstration of a comprehensive Web authentication platform for consumer identity protection that is currently being performed by major financial institutions in the United States. Risk-based Authentication is a behind-the-scenes, transparent technology that uses real-time risk assessments to assign a risk score based on the likelihood that a given transaction or activity is fraudulent. If a transaction or activity is deemed high-risk by the Risk Engine, a user is challenged to provide a secondary form of authentication. The risk thresholds can be configured and adjusted by financial institutions.
Sling Media
Sling Media will demonstrate the Slingbox, a breakthrough consumer electronics product that delivers your home TV on any Internet-connected laptop or desktop PC, Mac, Windows Mobile, Palm OS or Symbian OS-based handheld or mobile phone no matter where you are; in the house, at the office, in another state or halfway around the world. Now politicians have a pipeline into the local and national news that is impacting their constituents because the Slingbox delivers their home television experience to them whether they're in their home state or in Washington DC. Sling Media will demonstrate how, with the Slingbox, you can get your familiar TV experience, live or recorded, wherever you are. In addition, Sling Media will show off a couple of its newest products and features including the SlingCatcher and Clip+Sling.
Skype
The demonstration will illustrate the importance of the correct legislative framework for Internet communications in connection with the universal service, network neutrality and public safety debates that are likely in 2007. This demonstration will place PSTN services (such as SkypeOut) in context, by demonstrating how consumers use Skype software to enable various kinds of communications in addition to those that may touch the PSTN. Furthermore, policymakers will be in a better position to understand, first-hand, the way Skype stimulates demand for mobile and fixed broadband services by participating in the demo.
Tux
This demonstration will show how Open Source and Open Standards benefit the field of technology and how that spreads to benefit educational, business, and government institutions as well as individuals. Our display will consist of computers running Open Source software or that implement Open Standards. Examples will include applications such as OpenOffice, FireFox and other collaboration tools which provide platform independent support. The demonstration will also show how open standards have helped launch and maintain the technological growth in the United States. It will show how new standards such as Open Document Format (ODF) and OpenVistA hope to replicate that same success in new areas.
UVA
Using the University of Virginia equipment and the services of the Freedom Calls Foundation they will have live connections to servicemen deployed to locations in Iraq, Al Asad and/or Camp Cooke. This service is routinely provided by the University and others across the country.
Verizon
Verizon Wireless will demonstrate a variety of broadband wireless applications that are supported by its advanced wireless network. This network uses the latest in advanced wireless technology, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, and that enables the company to provide its customers with a blend of voice, data, video, and multimedia applications. Verizon Wireless has announced its intention to upgrade its wireless network in 2007 with the latest CDMA
enhancements -- revision a of ev-do. rev a will provide increased capability to an already robust, advanced wireless network. It will increase the efficiency, data speeds and capacity of the existing ev-do network, enabling users to receive data at speeds up to 3.1 Megabits per second (Mbps) and send data at speeds up to 1.8 Mbps. These increased data speeds reduce data latency and will enable Verizon Wireless to deliver Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and other multimedia services.
WGBH Media Access and AOL
WGBH, Boston's public media pioneer, and AOL, have been developing cutting edge solutions for access to media and technology for people with disabilities in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities. WGBH is partnering with AOL to provide captioned video news content on AOL.com, which will be demonstrated. Also on display will be WGBH's Teachers' Domain, an accessible online learning environment, and CaptionKeeper, an automated conversion tool for bringing broadcast captions to the Web.
Zango
Zango will demonstrate desktop advertising software, which will showcase the conspicuous, plain-language notice and express consent prior to installation that enable consumers to access and enjoy for free more than 100,000 pieces of Web content and entertainment, including
sought-after online videos, games, music, tools, and utilities, and will also demonstrate the ease with which the software can be uninstalled. The demonstration will highlight content within the Zango library, as well as the ads Zango delivers through its unique method of time-shifted
advertising for consumers searching or browsing online for products and services. Zango's practices lead the online downloadable software industry and, most importantly, provide online consumers with the highest level of notice, consent and uninstallation standards.
