Nearly 5,000 schools nationwide have registered for the parent and teacher education program in the first year. Building on that foundation, we are launching a school-based curriculum designed to instruct K-12 students (starting with middle school children) in the essentials of smart, safe media usage. Through online games, videos, and other resources, "Digital Literacy: Citizenship in a Connected Culture" will empower young people to be responsible and respectful as they navigate the digital world. We are currently piloting the digital literacy and citizenship curriculum in 14 public, private and parochial schools in Omaha, Nebraska and the San Francisco Bay Area. We will continue evaluating and revising the curriculum over the summer for a national launch in September 2010.

ESRI and Connected Nation
Interactive Broadband Coverage Maps: Tools for stimulus tracking, consumer information, and economic development

ESRI will demonstrate its server based GIS (Geographic Information System) technology to create interactive broadband coverage maps. Connected Tennessee and Connect Ohio will demonstrate their online mapping solution, BroadbandStat, that was created by Connected Nation to display available service providers at the address level. By displaying served and unserved areas in relation to demographic and market data, broadband and computer adoption rates and barriers to adoption, the internet accessible map represents a union of traditional broadband availability mapping with detailed research into consumer technology trends.. Consumers, government officials, and local leaders can search by address for a list of broadband providers and provide instant feedback on the accuracy of the map. It is also possible to learn about community programs for digital literacy and broadband awareness, assess the impact of proposed broadband projects and track broadband growth.

The patient kiosks use Fujitsu PalmSecure ™ palm vein biometric authentication technology to verify patient identity, speed-up check-ins, update patient records, make co-payments and improve patient satisfaction in an easy-to-use, private manner.

Exhibition guests will be able to use several MedSecure kiosks to model the experience of enrollment and check-in. Since 1996 Fujitsu has demonstrated our biometric technologies to the Internet Caucus. Prior years have focused on the promise of PalmVein biometrics and their future application. Google
Google PowerMeter
Google PowerMeter is a free electricity usage monitoring tool that provides you with information on how much energy your home is consuming. PowerMeter receives information from utility smart meters and in-home energy management devices and visualizes this information for you on iGoogle (your personalized Google homepage). Studies show that being able to see your electricity usage in near real time, throughout the day, makes it easier to reduce it and save money. This sort of feedback requires either an advanced electricity meter, a "smart meter," or a consumer-owned electricity management device, and many of today's smart meters don't display information to the consumer. Consumers should have access to data on their personal electricity use, control who gets to see this data and choose from a range of services to help them understand and benefit from this data. We hope that consumers will soon be empowered with an entire ecosystem of energy information products and services. Learn more about PowerMeter at www.google.org/powermeter/.
