Congressional Policymaking in the Cloud: How the Internet is Evolving and What Congress Needs to Do About It
Monday, April 11, 2011 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Luncheon Panel Discussion
U.S. Capitol Visitors Center, Room SVC 209-08

Government Shutdown Note: This event will NOT be affected by the government's budgetary situation.
Join us for an important discussion on policymaking in the "cloud." Just when you thought Internet policymaking was complicated enough, the Internet starts to undergo a radical transformation toward "cloud computing." Cloud Computing has been described as the next step in the evolution of the Internet. And this evolutionary paradigm shift will further challenge Congress and policymakers to understand a sensible approach to U.S. technology policy.
Cloud computing has figuratively given flight to our most sensitive data, communications tools, and our computational capacity. Our expert panel will offer thoughts on what cloud computing means and will forecast the legislative and regulatory changes the storm may produce. The panel will debate whether cloud computing will lead to a harmonization of Internet policy among nations or provoke conflicts over data sharing and computing.
